THE ROTHSCHILD FAMILY CHAMPAGNE
Excellence, a Family history

Vision, entrepreneurship and excellence have guided the Rothschild Family since the birth of its founder Mayer Amschel Rothschild in 1744. With expertise in making great wines since 1853, the different branches of the Family are today responsible for some of the most renowned estates in the world such as Château Mouton Rothschild or Château Lafite Rothschild.

A Family will to unite around an exceptional Champagne wine

Passionate about the greatest terroirs in France and around the world, the three branches of the Rothschild Family – today represented by Philippe Sereys de Rothschild (Château Mouton Rothschild), Ariane de Rothschild (Château Clarke – Edmond de Rothschild Group), Eric and Saskia de Rothschild (Château Lafite Rothschild) – are joining forces, for the first time in their history, in the creation of a common estate.

“We wanted to do something together. Champagne was the natural choice. And rather than buying a House, we decided to create our own.”
Philippe Sereys de Rothschild
2005
Thus was born in 2005 Champagne Barons de Rothschild, the fruit of the Barons’ common will to elaborate together their singular interpretation of a Great Wine of Champagne and to magnify this symbol of conviviality and art of living so dear to the whole family.
Since its creation, Champagne Barons de Rothschild has been based on the family’s historical values:
Concordia
(Harmony, agreement, literally “all hearts together”)
It is the union of the Family around this common vision, a common love of fine craftsmanship, of the art of living, and the respect of the dynasty founders wish that no major decision should ever be taken without the agreement of all.
Integritas
(State of being intact, without alteration)
This is the Family’s personal and original interpretation of what a Grand Vin de Champagne with an uncompromising Chardonnay style, mainly from Grands and Premiers crus vineyards and with a minimalist dosage.
Industria
(Savoir-faire, methodical work)
It means taking the time to do something well, down to the smallest details, within a House with low production, which benefits from the same high standards as all the Family’s other fine wines.
This is the singularity of the Rothschild Family in a Grand Vin de Champagne.
Chardonnay, the signature grape variety
The Chardonnay, pillar of the house philosophy
Representing more than 70% of the House’s supplies, this grape variety is certainly the best known in the world but it remains the smallest of the three main grape varieties in Champagne. Slowly evolving, it’ s the ideal varietal for the ageing of wines and the backbone of all the blends of the House with never less than 50 to 60% and up to 100% of our cuvées.
“Achieving the ultimate in elegance is our primary objective”

Philippe Sereys de Rothschild

Exceptional terroirs
Representing more than 90% of the House’s supplies, it is in the heart of the Grands Crus and Premiers crus of the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims that the Rothschild Family has built its vineyards and works closely with the winegrowers to ensure the highest quality and traceability while respecting the environment.
A savoir-faire of craftsmanship
Respecting the requirements of the Family’s Grands Vins, the elaboration of each Barons de Rothschild cuvée is a true work of craftsmanship based on 5 fundamentals.
The omnipresence of Chardonnay
Keystone of all the wines of the House and majority in all the blends
The Grands and Premiers crus
90% of the total supply of the House. Our vineyards are located in the heart of the exceptional terroirs of the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims
The importance of reserve wines
More than 40% of the blend of our non-matured cuvées conserved mostly within a perpetual reserve created from the first harvest

The purity of dosage

Between 0 and 6 g/l maximum, our champagnes let the origin of the wine and the typicity of the terroirs express themselves at best, without masking anything
Time
A gage of quality and excellence brought by an exceptionally long ageing in bottles from 4 to more than 10 years and a post-disgorgement rest of 6 months minimum up to one year to reach the perfect balance
